Deadline exclusively covered the return of Rakuten Viki's K-Drama Day, which is back for its fourth year. This coverage reflects how far Korean content has moved into the mainstream of global streaming, and the role Viki has played in building the audience behind it.
Running from September 25 through October 1, the celebration has outgrown its name, amounting to a full K-drama week of free content, prizes, and immersive experiences. Ten of Viki's top-performing series will stream free during the week, including Spirit Fingers, Last Summer, A Bona Fide Killer, and The Scarecrow.
Talent drives much of this year's programming, from video shoutouts by Park Ji Hoon, Lee Hye Ri, and other K-drama stars, to a snack truck video with the cast of Dive into You. Directors So Jaehyun and Yoon Jong Ho also recorded interviews about their series, which will be released throughout the week leading up to K-Drama Day.
Fans have a hand in the celebration too, voting for the K-drama they want to see featured on digital billboards across U.S. cities and select international markets. That emphasis on the community is the point, as noted by Viki CEO Sam Wu: "Fans have always been at the heart of Viki. K-Drama Day is our tribute to the incredible passion of this global community."
