Hiring for the Rakuten International Intern Program is officially open and we’re excited to welcome the next generation of innovators and leaders into our doors across the U.S. this summer. Interested prospective applicants can find open internship roles listed on our Careers Page with new roles added on a rolling basis.
About the Program
Every summer from June to August, interns take on meaningful work across Rakuten International and its business units: Rakuten Advertising, Rakuten Rewards, and our headquarters teams. In addition to gaining real-world experience, interns engage in weekly events designed to foster meaningful connections, enhance professional development, and learn from leaders across our businesses.
We’re on the lookout for interns to work in our U.S. offices (Bay Area, New York, Chicago, and more) who will take on high-visibility, high-impact projects in businesses touching digital marketing, streamed entertainment, e-commerce, and many more.
This year, internships will be offered across a range of different practices, including but not limited to:
- Business Development
- AI Engineering
- Product Marketing
- Project Management
- Human Resources
- Cyber Security and Operations
Words from Past Interns
Beyond the work itself, interns consistently highlight the mentorship and exposure they receive:
“My manager really understood my personal key takeaway that I wanted out of the internship. She’s always there: ready to help, ready to support.”
“Learning from so many professionals in my field has helped me visualize the type of leader that I want to be in the future.”
“Being able to work in a field that is constantly changing and evolving is super cool and keeps me on my toes.”
The Rakuten Intern Experience
Rakuten means “optimism” in Japanese, and it’s a philosophy that guides us. It’s the belief that, with the right mindset, we can actively build a brighter future through what we do today.
As a Rakuten intern, you’ll jumpstart your career, gain invaluable hands-on professional experience, and unlock your potential in an unforgettable journey where internship meets mentorship, events, and camaraderie along the way.
Our Advice to Intern Applicants:
- We understand intern candidates may have little directly related professional experience. Highlight any knowledge gained from campus involvement opportunities, volunteer work, and academic projects to demonstrate your soft and hard skills.
- Thoroughly research the Rakuten business unit you are applying to. Understanding their unique business operations will help you better articulate how your skills align with their specific needs.
- Leverage AI training and knowledge tools.
- Use resources available at your school’s career center to help prepare your resume and hone your interview skills. Take advantage of professional development workshops, resume reviews, and mock interview events.
- Build your network. You never know where a new connection will lead you.
